Analysis & Schedule:
Another week, another Lions overtime game, but this time, they failed to prevail against 24/7. Team 24/7 living up to its name by taking care of business, even on Sundays. Despite starting the game shorthanded and in a big hole, they have proven to be one of the better come-from-behind teams around. Adrenaline verse Eagles was a grind-it-out (i.e. ugly) game with way more missed than made shots. Eagles had a chance to win at the buzzer, but their 3-point attempt fell short.
Triple Threat managed to move into the win column with a blowout of a short-handed Force team. Force made runs, but they couldn't get stops on the other end. The game of the week failed to disappoint as Styl once again knocked off the mighty Strong Island squad in a game that went to the wire. Styl may just have created enough breathing room to hold on to that crucial #1 seed for the playoffs. Three East regular season games remain before the start of the playoffs... get ready! The minimum # of games required for playoff eligibility in the East is now "5" (3 for Triple Threat).
Standings:
1. Styl (8-0)
2. Strong Island (6-2)
3. 24/7 (6-2)
4. Lions (4-4)
-----------------------
5. Adrenaline (4-4)
6. Desert Eagles (2-6)
7. Triple Threat (1-7)
8. Force (1-7)

Analysis & Schedule:
It's no coincidence that the top four seeds once again took care of business against their lower-seeded opponents. Some games were awfully close, though. It took the Lions an overtime to dispatch Triple Threat and Styl had to overcome a 2nd half double-digit deficit to overtake the Eagles. Even Force put a scare into Strong Island late with a big rally to tie things up. The Adrenaline score is no typo, but it should be noted that they only had 4 players most of the way, so a blow out was to be expected.
Now that all teams have played one another, the top four seeds have clinched a top four spot for the playoffs. They will now play each other in the next three games for positioning. The #1 seed is still up in the air and it's the most coveted spot for obvious reasons. Likewise, the bottom four seeds will battle each other in the next three games to jostle for 5th place. The 4th and final remaining regular season game match-ups will be revealed at a later date.
Standings:
1. Styl (7-0)
2. Strong Island (6-1)
3. 24/7 (5-2)
4. Lions (4-3)
-----------------------
5. Adrenaline (3-4)
6. Desert Eagles (2-5)
7. Force (1-6)
8. Triple Threat (0-7)

Analysis:
The Titans win over Strong Island was huge for them because not only can they once again consider themselves to be contenders (after a slow start), but they also get a little breathing room in the extremely tight playoff race. Strong Island has struggled as of late, but even the Lakers can't win every game. SWAT's victory was pretty big as well for them because the winner of that match-up now has an important leg-up on the rest of the borderline playoff teams. That could very well have been the win that will get them into the playoffs.
Strictly Biz should change their team name to "Taking Care of Biz" cause that's what they're doing week in and week out. Ballers battled MKA pretty well but both teams knew in the back of their minds that it would be an MKA "W" regardless of the score. Rukus didn't score 100 for the 2nd week in a row? What's going on? ;) The Sport Time courts were lousy as evidenced by the low scores there, so hopefully we never have to play there again. Get your player pictures up by midnight 1/5/10.
Standings:
1. Strong Island (6-1)
1. Strictly Biz (6-1)
3. HUMANS (5-2)
4. MKA-NY (5-2)
5. Hit-Men (4-3)
5. Titans (4-3)
5. Rukus (4-3)
8. SWAT (3-4)
------------------------
9. Basketballers (2-5)
10. Panthers (2-5)
11. Jaguars (1-6)
12. Ravens (0-7)

The scheduling for January 3rd, this Sunday, is finally up. We had some difficulty because Flushing backed out on us at the last minute (for this Sunday only) so we had to rent out Sport Time in Bethpage as a last resort. There will be limited clock stoppage for the two games at Sport Time but there will be no time-outs or half-time because time is a little tighter there. The address is under "Venues" in the menu. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Reminder: The player pictures are due for upload by Jan. 5th for those players who want to be eligible for the playoffs. The playoff eligible lists for each team will go up based on the pictures that are up that day (and of course players need to have the minimum played games under their belts too by the end of the season). The 2nd half is officially under way!

#1 Strong Island
They still hold the top spot. SI has been in a few recent nail-biters, but their 6-0 record shoots them straight to the top. From their first close call (OT win in week 2 against SWAT) to their latest down to the wire game against the Panthers, SI has managed to come out on top each time. Titans next week. Lets see if they can continue to hold on.
#2 Strictly Biz
SB holds on to the number 2 spot again. They could have easily been 6-0 as well but could not overcome a 1point deficit against MKA and suffered their first and only loss of the season so far. Key win against the HUMANS show this team can beat the best. One things for sure…they are gunning for the number 1 spot.
#3 HUMANS
The defending champs jump up a spot to number 3. They have been playing well lately and look like the HUMANS of last year. They have the offensive and defensive weapons in place, they just need them to click on all cylinders in order to keep on winning. Their recent win against Rukus is huge, and they finally cooled down a really hot team. They get the Ravens next week….
#4 Hitmen
They drop a spot to number 4. Big loss to SWAT drops them down, however a key win against the Titans shows this team is still part of the elites. Their PG play is key in order for the team to flourish. They have the bodies ready to take on any team in the league, but the general is necessary for them to do it effectively. Huge game against Rukus next week. Can they go for 2 in a row?
#5 MKA This team is quietly moving up the rankings. They have been on a tear lately winning key games. Their win against Strictly Biz shows they are good enough to beat anyone. They are playing as well as anyone in the league and are definitely a sleeper to watch out for. Another potential easy win next week against the Ballers.
#6 Rukus
Huge jump for Rukus up to the 6 spot. The only team this year to hit 100 in a game this year. Not once, but twice. This team can definitely score, but they have not yet won a game against the elite teams this year. The loss against the HUMANS raises concerns on whether this team is a pretender or contender. Next weeks game against the Hitmen is huge. They can take the 4 spot in the rankings with a win, or could fall in the pretenders category.
#7 Titans
We all know the potential this team has, but attendance has been their Achilles heal. They have the power to knock off the best of the league, but their inability to keep a streak going is killing their chances of winning a championship. But one thing is for sure. They have always gutted it out and found themselves in the finals. The last two season have been proof of that. They don’t start playing until it really counts.
#8 SWAT
This team proves that history does repeat itself. Another season plagued by attendance and roster issues. They showed a lot of promise early in the season but they have dropped 3 of their last 4 and need to start winning or the playoffs will have to wait till next year. A huge win against Hitmen was key but they need to play consistently and need their players to show if they want to keep it going. Next week against Panthers can have major playoff implications.
#9 Panthers They could have easily had the 7th seed. However, they lost to the same Hitmen team SWAT manhandled. One of the monsters of the league last year is struggling this year and have not found their groove yet. Playoffs are coming and they need to start winning. Next weeks game against SWAT is huge and can control the rest of their season.
#10 Ballers This team remains a mystery. One of the most consistent and strongest teams in SABL history find themselves in the lower tier of the league. No one is sure why they have been losing, but one thing is for sure, they have the potential and experience to turn things around. They need to change things up ASAP if they want to make the playoffs.
#11 Red Jaguars This team has been getting better with every game. But they have not been able to close any deals. They are full of fine young players but need some time before they can make some real noise in the playoffs. But others should not sleep on them. This team plays hard throughout and can knock off anyone who isn’t giving it their all.
#12 Ravens Find themselves winless and looking for an answer. They have kept it close in many games but have not been able to get the win. They have some of the right pieces but the talent level may not be quite there yet. Unless they go on a real hot streak, I think its time to start thinking about 2010 and tanking for the #1 pick.

For failure to put up their teams' stats in a timely manner, the Titans's captain (Pawan) and the Basketballers' captain (Naveed) will have to sit out their next game, whether that's this week or next. Additionally, the Basketballers will be allowed to play their next game against MKA but will be assessed an automatic "L" regardless of the result and their stats will not count for that game (due to this being their 2nd infraction). MKA sits at 5-2 now and the 'Ballers are 2-5.
Heavy snowfall is expected for tonight and tomorrow morning so there's a chance the schools may be closed. We'll post here as soon as we find out and send an email out to the captains either way. We'll either know by tonight or early in the morning. Thanks.
Update: All games canceled Sunday due to snow. See you January 3rd. Enjoy the break.
